Here’s an update on what we’ve been working on!
One of our calls to action is to provide mandatory training on cultural safety and anti-racism, working with 2SLGBTQ+ students, sexual assault and harassment (with a focus on consent in fitness instruction), power imbalances, and fatphobia and body diversity.
In response, we decided to work with Inclusive Practices Consulting (IPC). They are an inclusivity and diversity training and consulting business located in Edmonton. You can find them at https://inclusivepracticesconsulting.com.
It is important to mention that IPC is absent of POC and that all anti-racism training will be delivered by POC facilitators. IPC is more than capable of providing the necessary foundational work for ARAO and will provide training in the form of workshops on: interventions and interruptions, consent based practices, 2SLGBTQ+ inclusion, ability and body diversity, and body liberation.
All Aradia instructors have attended an introductory workshop on ARAO and they will be attending a workshop on interventions and interruptions later this month.
IPC is available to instructors as a support. They are here to answer any questions or concerns the current instructions may have. IPC has also been working closely with Chantelle Beasley, the owner of Aradia Edmonton, ensure steps moving forward reflect the positive changes we hope to make.
If you have any questions for IPC, please contact them at macharley@shaw.ca.
